Sylvia Plath Instalation Piece

This is a piece that I completed during my portfolio course in Ballyfermot.

We were all assigned to make a sculpture for the Dublin Book Festival in Smock Alley Theatre. We could chose whichever author of poet to base our work off so I ended up chosing the work of my favourite poet Sylvia Plath. Her work was always very poignant to me and I felt like her emotionscame out of the page when reading her work.

I decided to almost bring her work to life, by moulding her handwritten letters into the shape of a face multiple times, and hanging them together to show the many layers of a complex woman such as herself. I then paper mached her poetry onto a mirorr, which her poetry has a lot of references of. I then hung these faces infront of the mirror to reflect off it.
